Research + Development
As part of a Canada Council for the Arts grant, I was able to enrol in the Basic Survival Training Program offered through Survival Systems Training in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. The program is designed to provide a basic understanding of the hazards associated with working in an offshore environment, the knowledge and skills necessary to react effectively to offshore emergencies, and the procedures to care for themselves and others in a survival situation. Practical exercises included:
Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET) using an Egress Training Simulator
Practical sea survival exercises
Fire Fighting & smoke house (SCBA)
Practical Abandonment exercises
HUEBA (wet) familiarization
team training open ocean
underwater helicopter egress simulator
high angle rope rescue
